Dir. Alfred Hitchcock / US / 1960 / 1hr 38mins (15)
Hitchcock’s ultimate suspense thriller – using only the string section of an orchestra, Herrmann created one of his most recognisable scores of all time. Hitchcock was pleased with the tension and drama the score added to the film, later remarking “33% of the effect of Psycho was due to the music”.
